How many manufacturing and industrial companies have active websites
In our corpus of public domains, we recorded 351,713 active websites belonging to companies in the Manufacturing and Industrial sector. This figure represents the current state of our data and the activity we measure through BizCensus. It is not the total number of industrial companies that exist, but those that maintain an active domain observable from the public web.
It is a significant volume. It means there is a substantial number of manufacturers, distributors, component suppliers, and transformation companies that have invested in an online presence. But it also means many lack a visible web presence or have inactive domains.
How many publish their contact information?
Of those 351,713 websites, 291,342 include public business contact information. That is 82.8%. A high proportion: most of these companies provide a means of communication (email, form, phone) on their site.
This has practical implications. If you are looking to prospect in this sector and your audience is companies with websites, you know that 4 out of 5 have left a door open for contact. Not all, but many.
When there is no visible contact information, it is often due to outdated sites, minimal corporate pages, or domains that remain active but unmaintained. In those cases, other avenues (directory searches, social media, cold calling) may be necessary.
Where they are concentrated
Geographic distribution is not uniform. Russia leads with 112,976 active websites, followed by China with 41,590 and India with 28,684. Then Germany (25,000), United States (14,877), United Kingdom (8,374), Spain (7,806), and Australia (5,930).
These eight countries account for most of the visible corpus. The concentration in Russia and India is notable and reflects both the density of manufacturing in those regions and the coverage of our data. China is also an important hub, though the figure may be affected by access barriers to the public web in that country.
For those prospecting, this suggests different opportunities depending on the region. In Russia and India there is high volume. In the United States and Germany, the base is smaller but corresponds to highly developed markets. Spain, with 7,806 websites, offers a manageable volume if it is your target market.
What this means for prospecting
Having these figures is not a shortcut for mass emailing. But it does allow you to understand the landscape.
If your product or service is aimed at industrial companies, knowing that there are 351,000 with websites and that 8 out of 10 publish contact information gives you an idea of the size of the visible market. It won't be 100% of the actual sector, but it is a useful snapshot of who is online.
From there, you have options. You can narrow down by country, use web analytics tools to identify patterns of size or specific sectors, and design a coherent contact strategy. Always respecting human volumes, legal basis (GDPR in Europe, similar regulations in other regions), and a tone that recognizes you are not looking for everyone, but those who fit.
Effective prospecting is not about large numbers. It is about relevant numbers, with context, and personalized approach.
Limitations of this data
These figures are a snapshot of our corpus at the time of publication. They do not include companies without websites. They do not differentiate between subsidiaries, parent companies, or companies with multiple domains. And coverage varies by country depending on public web accessibility and indexing activity.
Use these figures as a starting point: a reference for who is online in Manufacturing and Industrial, not as absolute market truth.
