Where the highest concentration of active business websites is located
The BizCensus corpus contains approximately 16.6 million live domains distributed worldwide. Ten countries concentrate the bulk of this corporate digital presence, led by Germany with over 4.5 million websites.
This concentration reflects several factors: the size of the economy, the density of SMEs, and internet penetration in each region. However, the ranking of domains does not always match that of companies that share their business contact information publicly.
Who publishes contact information and who doesn't
One surprising finding: not all companies with active websites display a phone number or business email on them. In the United States, 78.7% of websites show public contact information. In Japan, only 44.2%. This gap is significant if you're looking to reach out directly to companies in those markets.
The countries where most companies publish contact information are:
- United States: 78.7% of its active websites include public contact information.
- Spain: 67.1%.
- Russia: 58.2%.
- Brazil: 58.1%.
- China: 56.8%.
The countries where the fewest do so are:
- Japan: 44.2%.
- Netherlands: 45.7%.
- United Kingdom: 46.3%.
- France: 49.4%.
- Germany: 55.1%.
These differences reflect distinct business cultures, local regulations, and privacy preferences. In markets like Japan or the United Kingdom, many companies prefer to manage contact through web forms or intermediary platforms rather than through publicly available data.
What these figures mean
These numbers are a snapshot of the BizCensus corpus at the time of publication. They do not represent the total number of companies in each country, but rather the websites that our system detects as active and identified by their domain, sector, country, and language.
A company may have an active website in BizCensus and still not appear in this ranking if its domain does not meet capture criteria or if it is identified in another country. It also does not include companies without a website or with a presence only on social media.
That said, the ranking is useful for understanding where the most detected corporate digital activity is concentrated and what contact publication practices are in each region.
What to do with this knowledge
If you run an SME and want to succeed in other markets, these figures tell you something clear: the density of competitors varies greatly. Germany has far more active websites than Brazil, but Brazil publishes contact information at almost the same frequency.
If you're looking to contact companies in a country:
- Understand that the volume available is not the same everywhere. Germany, Japan, and Russia offer you the largest number of live domains.
- Keep in mind what percentage actually exposes public contact information. In the United States or Spain it's high; in Japan or the Netherlands, lower.
- Adjust your strategy according to the market. Where there is less visible public contact, you may need to use other channels: web forms, LinkedIn, business associations.
- Always remember that any outreach should be conducted responsibly and within the legal framework of each country (GDPR in Europe, LGPD in Brazil, local laws in Asia).
Volume is only the starting point. The quality of contact, relevance, and approach strategy are what determine results.
Geographic and sectoral context
Some of these countries have highly specialized business sectors. Germany is strong in manufacturing and industry. Japan, in technology and retail. The United States, in services and software. That sectoral diversity also explains why contact publication patterns are not uniform.
If your business seeks companies in a specific sector within these countries, the availability of contacts will differ from the national average. However, the overall ranking gives you the first approximation: where there is volume, where that volume is accessible, and where you'll need to look through other channels.
